About

James Conway, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatric infectious disease doctor. Dr. Conway diagnoses and treats both common and rare infections, illnesses and disorders in children and adolescents of all ages.

In addition to treating conditions such as pneumonia, meningitis, and bone and joint infections, Dr. Conway cares for children with complex or rare disorders. These include Kawasaki disease (heart condition causing blood vessel inflammation), MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children) and others requiring expert diagnosis and care.

Dr. Conway works with families to customize a treatment plan and helps prevent recurrences or new infections. With a special interest in vaccines and vaccine development, he is focused on strengthening immunization programs and combating misinformation. His goal is for every child to have equal access to protection from contagious illnesses through vaccination.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Conway is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He is part of the University of Wisconsin Immunization Task Force, a member of the Wisconsin Council on Immunization Practices (WCIP) and the associate director for health sciences in the Global Health Institute at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Conway works both domestically and globally to partner with international leaders to find ways to prevent disease and keep kids around the world as healthy as possible.

In his free time, Dr. Conway enjoys outdoor activities, especially downhill skiing and bicycling to work — regardless of the weather conditions. A former New Yorker, he remains a passionate Bills and Sabres fan who happily supports Wisconsin teams, too.

Kids are the greatest. I love making them well, keeping kids healthy and seeing the smile of a child who is starting to feel better.
