About

Michael Bentz, MD, is a UW Health plastic and reconstructive surgeon and a professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Bentz’s practice focuses on plastic and reconstructive surgery for infants and children. He has special interests in pediatric hand surgery; cleft lip and palate surgery; chest, abdominal wall, and extremity reconstruction; and the treatment of birthmarks and vascular lesions. He also performs general reconstruction of the adult trunk, extremities, and head and neck as well as cardiothoracic reconstruction and gynecologic, colorectal and orthopedic reconstruction.

Dr. Bentz strives to get to know each patient and family individually. He spends a lot of time preparing for visits so he can communicate effectively with families — before, during and after surgery. Dr. Bentz finds it rewarding to help someone function better and improve their appearance, especially in children with birth differences.

To help improve plastic surgery care in developing countries, he participates in global plastic surgery programs on multiple continents while his research focuses on outcomes in gynecologic oncology reconstruction and intra-and extra-thoracic reconstruction as well as educational outcomes.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, children and dog.

I try to treat everyone as I would want my own family member to be treated.
