The American Family Children's Hospital Child Life Program follows the Child Life Council's Internship Offer and Acceptance Dates

The Child Life program at American Family Children's Hospital offers a 16-week, 640-hour clinical internship under the direction of Certified Child Life Specialists. The internship provides professional training to students preparing for certification and a career as a Child Life Specialist. The internship meets the requirements set by the Child Life Council (CLC).
 
About the Child Life Internship
 
Students accepted into the internship program will gain experiences and develop skills in the following Child Life program areas:
  • Child Life services throughout the health care setting (may include a combination of inpatient units, surgery, outpatient specialty clinics, day treatment/sedation, radiology and emergency department)
  • Psychosocial and emotional needs of hospitalized children and therapeutic interventions to support those needs
  • Family-centered care
  • Preparation and support for medical procedures and tests
  • Pre-operative teaching and tours
  • Medical play
  • Developmentally-supportive individual and group activities for patients
  • Organization of special events and visitors
  • Sibling preparation and support
