Youth Advisory Council

two sistersChildren and teens who are frequent users of the hospital and outpatient services have a unique view of the care provided. Their experiences are often different than those of their parents.

Youth Advisory Council

With the formation of the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) YAC, for ages 8-18, American Family Children's Hospital is addressing the concerns of its patients. Through participation in this advisory council, young patients and siblings can have their voices heard and provide feedback for changes and improvements to the hospital.

Some of the projects the group has worked on include:

  • Hospital menu choices
  • Hospital room color themes and decorations,
  • Design of teen lounges and playrooms
  • Activity and special event ideas that would appeal to all ages

The Youth Advisory Council is currently "under construction" to create a new online forum. This will allow more patients to participate in the council's meetings, even from afar, and have their input recognized and used throughout the hospital.

The goal for the Youth Advisory Council is to educate hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff about the needs and concerns of patients and families from the unique perspective of the child/teen.
