Kids As Partners (KAP) and the Teen Advisory Board (TAB)
Children and teens who are frequent users of the hospital and outpatient services have a unique view of the care provided. Their experiences are often different than those of their parents.
With the formation of two councils - Kids As Partners (KAP) for 8- to 12-year-olds and the Teen Advisory Board (TAB) for 13- to 18-year-olds - American Family Children's Hospital is addressing the concerns of its patients. Through participation in these advisory councils, young patients have their voices heard and provide feedback for changes and improvements to the hospital.
Some of the projects the group has worked on include:
- Hospital menu choices
- Hospital room color themes and decorations,
- Design of teen lounges and playrooms
The TAB/KAB groups are currently working on providing input on the American Family Children's Hospital website and programming for the closed circuit TV.
Advisory Board Goals
The goal for both KAP and TAB is to educate hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, and other hospital staff about the needs and concerns of patients and families from the perspective of the child/teen.
If your child would be interested hearing more or in serving on the one of the Boards, please contact Heather Burgus by email at HBurgus@uwhealth.org or by phone at (608) 890-8322. You can also apply online using our Advisory Board Application form.
