Diagnosing Pediatric Migraine

UW Health pediatric neurologists at American Family Children's Hospital provide evaluation and treatment for a wide range of neurological conditions, including epilepsy, tics, developmental delays and migraines. Pediatric neurologist Carl Stafstrom developed a simple tool to aid in the diagnosis of migraines. He asks his young patients to draw what their migraine headaches feel like. His five-year study showed the drawings were 90 percent accurate in diagnosing migraines as opposed to tension headaches.
