Weight of the Nation

To examine the impact and cost of obesity within the U.S., HBO and the Institute of Medicine, in association with the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, created a four-part documentary series titled, "The Weight the Nation."

Each part in the series features interview with national experts, and individuals and families struggling with obesity. Part three of the series, "Children in Crisis" features the UW Health Pediatric Fitness Clinic and highlights two of the patients and their families.

About the Documentary: Weight of the Nation

Each episode within the four-part series examines a different aspect of the obesity issue. Through case studies, interviews with experts, and individuals and families struggline with obesity, the series illustrates the significant challenges and issues the nation faces when confronting the crisis, and the impact the crisis has on our health and economic well-being of the country. All four episodes in the documentary are available for viewing online at theweightofthenation.hbo.com, as well as additional resources about the issue. 

About the Clinic

Changing habits can be challenging, but it's not impossible. UW Health's Pediatric Fitness Clinic is a resource for families where they can learn easy and fun healthy habits for life. Clinic staff, including physicians, nutritionists and exercise physiologists help families identify realistic goals based on things kids like to do.

Most health insurance plans cover the initial evaluation and follow-up visits at the clinic. Parents interested in the program should contact their insurance provider for benefit information prior to scheduling the first appointment.
