UW Health's pediatric rehabilitation specialists in Madison, Wisconsin, provide a multidisciplinary approach to your child's rehabilitation.
Referrals are made for Selective Posterior Rhizotomy Protocol (SPR) Occupational Therapy to address upper extremity and functional skill improvement potential related to selective posterior rhizotomy surgery.
Evaluation is done pre- and post surgery. Evaluations include assessments of:
- ADLs
- Upper extremity strength
- Range of motion
- VMI
- Standardized fine motor tests
- Dynamic reaching activities with midline crossing components
Treatment focus is to improve upper extremity function, trunk control and increase independence in activities of daily living (ADLs).
Treatment techniques and home programs address:
- Self care skills
- Range of motion
- Strength
- Coordination
- Visual motor integration
- Reach/grasp
- Equipment considerations for postural control during functional activities
