Target Audience and Scope of Practice

This activity was designed to meet the needs of primary care providers including physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and other health care providers who participate in the care of the pediatric and adolescent patient.

Statement of Need

In addition to feedback from past conferences and grand rounds programs, results of a survey of Wisconsin-based physicians indicated great interest in the topics covered in this issue. Furthermore, the members of the editorial staff, identified issues that have seen significant advances in recent years and that will be most applicable to learners’ clinical work.

Elements of Competence

This CME activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge and practice-based learning and improvement.

Overall Objective

Provide physicians and other health care professionals with up-to-date information on new trends and developments in the prevention and treatment of childhood and adolescent diseases.

Educational Objectives

At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  1. Review state-of-the-art, evidence-based practices influencing the prevention, care and treatment of pediatric and adolescent diseases. Participants will be able to independently and consistently identify sound medical practices and incorporate them into daily practice.
  2. Compare the latest practice recommendations to current clinical practice. Participants will be able to assess their current practices and determine if the research applies to their patient populations in order to evaluate the need to make changes to their standards of care.
  3. Identify points around current issues in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Participants will identify trends in pediatric medicine and formulate plans to incorporate them into their practices.
