Dr. Katryn Furuya received her medical degree from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She completed her residency in pediatrics and her fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto. She was a Duncan Gordon Research Fellowship Awardee from The Hospital for Sick Children and did further training at the Medical College of Virginia and at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Tennessee, Memphis, TN. 


She is a Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and at UW Health American Family Children’s Hospital. She is board certified in pediatric gastroenterology through the American Board of Pediatrics and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and is also certified as a pediatric transplant hepatologist. Dr. Furuya is also the Medical Director of the Pediatric Liver Transplant Program at UW Health. Her clinical practice includes hepatology, transplant hepatology and general gastroenterology with special interests in biliary atresia, metabolic liver disease, viral hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. She is also a member and serves on committees of the Society of Pediatric Liver Transplantation and the American Association for the Study of Liver Disease.
