Space for Every Child: Newly Expanded PICU

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at American Family Children's Hospital: Parents with small childWhen a child is sick enough to need the most advanced medical care possible, there should always be a bed waiting.

When demands continued to grow at American Family Children’s Hospital, trends showed that our 61-bed capacity would not be able to accommodate every child and family who needs our care. An especially critical need was for more space in the 21-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), where we care for our most acutely ill infants and children, such as those injured in a trauma, fighting a severe infection or recovering from surgery.
