Kids and Collector Car Owners Cruise for a Cure
Madison, Wisconsin - Forty car enthusiasts will take American Family Children’s Hospital patients for a spin in collectible cars to raise money for pediatric surgery research.
Cars Curing Kids, founded by Children’s Hospital surgeon Dr. Peter Nichol, is sponsoring Cruisin’ for a Cure, an eight-mile tour of one of the most scenic routes in Madison on Sunday, August 9 from 10am to 2pm.
Drivers pay a registration fee to chauffer patients and “graduates” of American Family Children’s Hospital. Children will be escorted on a red carpet to the cars at the start of the tour at the Children’s Hospital around 10:45am.
The parade of cars will follow a route that will include Shorewood, Lake Mendota Drive, Observatory Drive and Park Street. The drivers will include former Wisconsin Badger and professional football player Al Toon and UW Hospital and Clinics President Ron Sliwinski.
Following the cruise, the children will vote in the “Kids Choice” award to name the most popular car in the event. Nichol said the proceeds from this year’s event will go toward research on short gut syndrome. Short gut occurs when a part of the intestine is missing or is removed during surgery.
