Packers Coach Visits American Family Children's Hospital
Madison, Wisconsin - Hospitalized kids in Madison were smiling bigger than ever when Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy walked into their room.
McCarthy visited 35 patients and families at American Family Children’s Hospital in conjunction with the sixth annual Mike & Jessica McCarthy Golf Invitational in Madison on June 14 and 15, 2015.
“It is very fulfilling to come here each year and be part of this special place,” Coach McCarthy said. “We hope we can brighten each kid’s day for a couple of minutes. I know each kid I meet touches me.”
Since its inception in 2010, the annual dinner and golf outing has raised more than $1.5 million in support of patients and families at American Family Children’s Hospital. The 2015 dinner attracted 670 guests and the golf outing included 180 participants.
As one of the honorary chairs of the Sick Kids Can’t Wait campaign, McCarthy was part of the effort to raise money to build:
- A new imaging pavilion designed for children
- A Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
- A universal care unit on the newly-opened eighth floor
