Madison, Wisconsin - On September 23 at Warner Park, Team UW Health participated in the Walk to Cure Diabetes and fell just a few dollars shy of raising $40,000 for the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.
UW Health had a total of 24 teams and 275 walkers. Eleven of the UW Health teams received the Bronze Level Team Award for raising $1,000 to $2,499, and five others received the Silver Level Team Award for raising $2,500 to $4,999.
Sue Sanford-Ring, Vice President, Quality and Patient Safety for UW Health, also served as the 2012 Madison Walk to Cure Diabetes Corporate Chair. With Sue's leadership, JDRF raised more than $148,500 in corporate donations and team fundraising.
Funds raised through the walk support research to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes, a disease which affects almost 3 million Americans and is most often diagnosed in childhood but lasts a lifetime and carries the constant threat of deadly complications.
Overall, the Madison Walk to Cure Diabetes raised a grand total of more than $399,000.
