Going Home - Preparing for Discharge

Your American Family Children's Hospital medical team will determine when your child is ready to go home. Please feel free to ask questions or mention any concerns before leaving.
 
Preparing for Discharge
 
Refer to the following checklist to help you understand what the medical team will look for and consider before discharging your child:
  • Intravenous (IV) fluid and all special lines have been removed, unless required for future treatments
  • Ability to swallow and tolerate fluids or food by mouth and/or special diet
  • No signs or symptoms of infection or bleeding
  • Stable vital signs 
  • Pharmacy/prescriptions (can be filled at the Gift Shop and Pharmacy, Wisconsin Avenue Pharmacy and Gifts)
  • Medical equipment
  • Transportation needs
  • Home health care needs
  • Rehab needs
  • School re-entry (see Hospital School and School Re-Entry)
  • Follow-up appointment
