Inpatient Lactation Rooms

A private, inpatient lactation room is available on each unit, and a Medela Symphony breast pump is available for you to use. If the breast milk is for a patient admitted to our hospital, we will store it for you in our Milk Lab. Please notify the nursing staff if you are interested in using this room.

If the breast milk is for not for a patient in our hospital, you can store the breast milk in one of our family lounge refrigerators. You will need to make sure the breast milk is labeled and dated, per the policy listed on the refrigerator in the family lounge. For the safety of all, please bring your own tubing kit and supplies if you would like to use the Medela Symphony breast pump. A tubing kits and pumping supplies can be purchased at the American Family Children's Hospital Pharmacy, located in the main lobby. Please be responsible and clean the pump following use with Cavi Wipes or Clorox bleach wipes, which are available in the room.

Please contact our lactation consultants to answer any questions you may have regarding lactation or pumping via e-mail at lactationhelp@uwhealth.org or by phone at (608) 890-8227.
