Coping with a child's medical condition can be challenging. Research shows that psychological support and intervention can have positive effects on a child's ability to cope with an illness or injury.
Health psychologists recognize the emotional challenges faced by families of children receiving inpatient and outpatient medical treatment. After assessing the child's emotional, behavioral and/or cognitive needs, health psychologists offer ongoing emotional support, education, counseling and guidance.
Services are offered to inpatients and on an outpatient basis.
Special Issues
Illness or injury can create multiple challenges for patients and their families. And those challenges can change even when a patient has recovered. American Family Children's Hospital Pediatric Health Psychologists can help patients and families
