Amazing Kids, Amazing Stories: Andrew's Story
We're treating cancer one Andrew at a time.
Patsy and David Zielsdorf were heartbroken when they learned that their son Andrew had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia — a cancer that affects the white blood cells and, if left untreated, the entire body. At the time, Andrew was only two years old. And while it’s certainly hard to find a silver lining in a story such as this, in this case, there is one.
You see, Andrew was treated by a team of pediatric oncology specialists that included doctors Paul Sondel and Margo Hoover-Regan at UW Health and American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. UW Health is one of just seven institutions in North America named to a pediatric cancer research “dream team” by the American Association for Cancer Research.
But most importantly, thanks to his medical team, Andrew is now cancer-free — and skating with the best of them. Remarkable.
