What's New in the Pediatric Specialty Clinics?
From Amanda Meyer, Child Life Specialist
A ‘Welcome Packet’ was created to address common questions patients and families may have about visiting the Pediatric Specialty Clinics.
The packet is intended to be interactive so the child has an activity to do while waiting to see their provider. It was designed as a trip to the farm where each stop at the farm talks about a different clinic area.
For example, the first thing families see upon arriving to the clinic is the welcome desk and the large cow statue. Therefore, the first stop on the farm is seeing the cow.
The packet also identifies different staff that may be involved in the visit.
Each stop on the farm provides a fun learning activity. For example, one section asks the child to unscramble words of items found in a clinic room. The packet also suggests other things to do while waiting (checking out a DVD player or doing an art project) and what to do after the appointment.
The goal of the packet is to make clinic visits easier and more fun!
I hope you get a chance to enjoy A Trip to the Farm!
