Myth 4: Diet Soda Will Help Me Get Fit
There are many misconceptions about proper nutrition and exercise. Nutritionists from the Pediatric Fitness Clinic explore different myths and misconceptions, the truth behind them, and offer suggestions for what you can do instead.
Myth: Diet soda will help me to get fit.
Truth: When you drink something sweet, your body may get a boost of energy, but it does not last long and you may feel hungrier sooner.
Not a Healthy Option
Diet soda can be helpful in switching from regular soda to water, but is not a healthy option.
Researchers have shown us that when you drink something sweet, your body feels hungrier sooner, and you tend to eat more and add unwanted pounds over time. This is true even for foods that are sugar-free but taste sweet like diet soda or sugar-free waters.
Try This Instead
Add a glass of skim or 1 percent milk to your meal instead. Milk will add some protein to your meal and help you feel full longer.
Lead by example. Make water your number one beverage.
