UW Health's pediatric rehabilitation specialists in Madison, Wisconsin, provide a multidisciplinary approach to your child's rehabilitation.

Children with a traumatic brain injury may exhibit problems with attention and concentration, memory, judgment and problem solving, reasoning, organization, word retrieval, executive functioning (i.e., goal setting, planning, initiating and implementing the plan, self evaluating) and visuospatial awareness. Depending on the severity of the injury, these problems may be obvious or subtle and can affect new learning, performance in school and communication with others.

We provide an outpatient rehabilitation program with a team approach involving the child, family, teachers, physicians and therapists working together to transition the child from the hospital or inpatient rehabilitation setting to home and school. Following an evaluation to identify the child’s strengths and weaknesses, a treatment plan is developed to meet the child’s specific needs.

Depending on the severity of the injury, our treatment programs may last 3-12 months.
