New Surgeon-in-Chief Named at American Family Children's Hospital
Dan Ostlie, MD, has been named as Surgeon-in-Chief at American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison.
Dr. Ostlie will join the UW faculty in August after spending the past 12 years at the Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City, most recently as Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery.
He received his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in 1994. He subsequently completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale, and during that time performed a surgical research fellowship at Cambridge University, Cambridge, England.
He went on to complete a two-year Pediatric Surgery Fellowship at the Children’s Mercy Hospitals and Clinics in Kansas City in 2002. In 2003, he received his certification in Surgical Critical Care after completing the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship.
Dr. Ostlie’s research interests are focused on evidence-based pediatric surgery and he has participated as the primary investigator or co-investigator in more than 20 prospective randomized controlled trials in infants and children.
“I am excited to join the team at American Family Children’s Hospital and look forward to being an integral part of the surgical care of infants and children from Wisconsin and beyond,” says Dr. Ostlie. “My goal is to be a leader that will help guide the hospital to improve the lives of infants and children through innovative and collaborative surgical care, in conjunction with evidence-based surgical knowledge and research.”
